Life Changes—ONE

A few months ago I blogged about Karen Walrond and her mission to change the definition of beauty.  Karen is also involved with ONE, “a grassroots advocacy and campaigning organization that fights extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa, by raising public awareness and pressuring political leaders to support smart and effective policies and programs that are saving lives, helping to put kids in school and improving futures.”  ONE’s mantra in soliciting help is , “we're not asking for your money, we're asking for your voice.”

Karen recently traveled to Kenya with ONE and shot some amazing photos.  You can also see her photos on this Kirtsy slideshow.

If you want to change some lives, including your own, with ONE, you can go here to become a member…I did.  You can go here to read the ONE blog…I did.  Go here to find out about issues…I did.  And go here to find out about hot topics and how you can help right now…I did.  This is what some ONE members are doing to help with the Horn of Africa crisis:

Hi One! Great list! A hundred of us Swedes will skip our dinner on Sunday, or eat nothing at all on the whole day, and give our food money to help this disaster. We made an international event as well, for those who want to join in: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=172373502835727.

Thanks for this list. My kids are going to run a lemonade stand in the US and send their profits (with a matching donation from Mom & Dad) to UNICEF. Thanks for helping us help others!

One Dollar a day serves one person two meals = Protein Vitamin mineral packet.....just for nutrients to sustain life....they also Need Shelter...........Clean Water.........Prayers......

This is what we are going to do:  clean out closets and drawers, take items to our favorite consignment shops, donate the money we receive to help ONE.  It won’t be a lot, but it will be enough to change someone’s life…and it will be enough to make a change in our own lives.

  1. Lori,

Thank you for this post. ONE sounds like a great organization. I have just re-posted your story over on my blog where I try and encourage others to get involved in philanthropy. Thanks for sharing the opportunity.
