Thrift Store Thursday—The Thrifty Abode

Wow!  I don’t think I’ve even been inside a thrift store for at least a month…or any other store besides the grocery store.  Too busy having fun in the sun.  Our family also started our annual stint of playing turkey farmer, so I’ve got a brood of chicks I’m watching over for the next few weeks…until they are more like tween turkeys.

However, I do have a great “thrifty” blog that I wanted to share with you.  Aaron at The Thrifty Abode blogs about creating a home on a budget.  She has great decorating ideas and they are thrifty.  Often she will find something that she loves that is a bit too pricey.  Instead of breaking the bank and buying it, she will find something very similar somewhere else that has a much smaller price tag.  I love that!  In fact, that is exactly how I tend to do things.  Check out some of her thrifty swaps here and here

I also love reading about her Zero Dollar Decorating Project.  I’ve incorporated some of her ideas myself by rounding up some of my old décor and selling it at a local consignment shop.  Then I use the cash I get to purchase some new things to love.  It’s good for my pocketbook and it is good for the environment.  That equals good for me, my family, my community, and the world.  I feel really good about that.  It might be a small change, but it is a good change!

You should also check out Aaron’s etsy store Lanie + Lola Designs.

  2. My not so secret tips: plant a garden, cook at home, use whole foods, clip coupons. I really want to switch to more organic foods and lots and lots of veggies. It is definitely a bit more expensive, but I'm hoping the benefit of better health and energy will offset the cost. Let me know if you discover any secret tips!
